Can someone suggest a simple relaxation meditation/technique?

Using breath works well because the mind is connected to the breath, so we can use the breath to adjust the mind; therefore:

1. To slow down thought and relax the mind, make the exhale longer than the inhale. Inhale normally fairly quickly for a count of 4, and right away begin to do a slower exhale for a count of 6 or 8, then hold the breath out for a count of two, then repeat: inhale for count of 4, exhale for 8, etc. Do for about 7 minutes, sit quietly, and see how you feel.

2. To interrupt mind thoughts, do breath of fire for about a minute or two, inhale, hold with bhandas, then exhale and relax.

Conversely: To energize and activate, inhale for count of 6 or 8, then hold the inhale for 2, then and exhale for count of 4, and start over right away (with no pause at bottom of exhale). Similarly, for acheiving a balance of the mind, inhale for same count as exhale.

There are many forms of meditation and relaxation. The form you choose. Why?

There's a book on Mindfulness Meditation called:
'Beginning Mindfulness:Learning the Way Awareness' (a ten wk course) By: Andrew Weiss which teaches meditation.

There's also a 'Meditation Manuel' by Henepola Gunaratana called: 'Mindfulness in Plain English' which is below:

Practice Mindfulness Meditation twice a day - when arising and in the evening. Practice Loving-kindness Meditation prior to the daily practice of Mindfulness Meditation.
Thank You for your question; very kind of you to ask.

Meditation guide / Hypnosis?

Hi,
my question is about an Audio track - meditation guide/ hypnosis.
How do I know if a relaxation audio is a hypnosis thing?
I listened to it last night and felt great relaxation.
I felt great at the time but now I'm a bit freaked out that I may have been hypnotised?
If I was, is it detrimental to me? WHat are the dangers with hypnosis?
How do I know if it was just a meditation?
Is this kind of thing safe?
What is the difference between meditation and hypnosis?
What is the difference between meditation and hypnosis?

No one can be hypnotized against their will, conscious or unconscious. That being said, guided meditation is very similar to hypnosis, with the difference being a command to stop or start a behavior is given by the hypnotist to the patient, such as a trigger sound to stop the urge to smoke. Guided meditation is a person's voice or music designed to lead you on specific thought patterns towards better mental/emotional/spiritual health. It is often compared to guided prayer. There are no dangers with either meditation or hypnosis. Yes, it is safe and beneficial. In my state, hypnosis is regulated by the state, being used only by those with a master's degree in psychology in their practice. It can also be used for "entertainment purposes only", but again, the hypnotist MUST have a Master's degree and be licensed by the state. People practicing guided meditation are not regulated and can charge for their services under the heading of "spiritual counselling".

Relaxation And Meditation Techniques

relaxation and meditation techniques

Quick and easy meditation techniques are also known as relaxation techniques. Even though, these techniques are not considered as a life journey, but they can certainly help as a life quality enhancer. Relaxation techniques are widely used as a tool to reduce stress in life by removing obstructive, negative, wandering thoughts and fantasies in the human minds. With certain level of concentration, meditation can easily calms ones mind besides preparing ones towards a higher quality of life.

There are three main critical criteria in relaxation meditation techniques: position, environment and concentration. Quick and easy meditation should not come with impossible or hard to reach body contortions. Ease and relax position is one of the most important point. Some meditation master may require their students to be in sitting cross-leg position, standing, lying down or even in a walking position. Consequently, if one of the position, allows you to relax and focus, then that would be a good starting point.

The environment or the room you perform meditation is the next crucial factor. The room should have a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. It may be a living room, bedroom or any place that you feel comfortable with. You may want to have the place decorated in order to suit your senses. Relaxation music is great idea too. However, outdoor meditation is not encouraged for first timer, as there will be too many distractions.

Mantra also plays a pretty important part in focusing for first timer. The reason is a repeated action, sound or mantra helps ones in concentration. If you dislike mantra you can try focus on repeated actions such as breathing and humming which also help the first timer practitioner to enter a higher state of consciousness.

Scientific studies on alpha and delta brain waves have shown that meditation do bring beneficial physiologic effects to the body. So start your meditation right.
