How can i de-stress, need some coping techniques or tips?

I am going through a hellacious amount of stress lately, i moved into a new house, my husband got moved to a different shift at work so now we're on sepreate shifts. I am starting college classes next monday and my dog recently got sick and may need surgery. I know this stuff may seem small to some but i am super stressed and constantly worrying about stuff. I can't sleep, i'm having bad dreams, and i am just frazzled. What can i do to help de-stress? Any tips or techniques appreciated. I know my worrys aren't founded i'm just looking for problems it seems. How can i distract my brain and not think about all the possible bad things that can happen and worrying about them?
I do the facebook thing and it helps, but i was going to try working out starting tomorrow. I did take a deep breath right after i wrote this, lol.
Unfortunatly i have a career in a Health field so somking is no longer an option for me. Or i would do it.

Stress is different for everybody. Some people have lived in high pressure situations most of their life and thrive on it, others need support to manage stressful situations. It just depends a lot on personality. But I think some of the things you're saying, like your dog undergoing surgery, or moving into a new house would be stressful for almost anybody.

Doing something you genuinely enjoy would probably help a lot. Watch your favorite movie, or go see a new one at the theater. Read a really good book, or go have coffee with your friends. Do something to completely get your mind off all the things you have to do. Or write a list and tell yourself you'll get to it later while you have some fun. Your doggy will be just fine for one day. You can better take care of him when you feel less stressed out anyway. Have someone dog sit for a while and just take a day for yourself, then come back with renewed vigor. You could even go to a day spa and get a manicure and pedicure.

Why don't you and your husband compare schedules and come up with a 'date night' so you can talk about what's going on, and have some fun too. Go out to eat or just cook a good meal at home.

And if you're really really really stressed and you continue to have trouble sleeping, theres no shame in talking to a therapist. They might be able to give you some anxiety meds to help you through this stressful period in your life. Just make sure you don't take them too long, or abuse them.

Good luck! :)
